Treasures

Lately, I've been taking my wee Bloom to the park several mornings a week.  There is so much to see and do -- a sandbox filled with buckets, shovels and busy toddlers, a slide structure covered with climbing toddlers, a grassy area full of toddlers dashing about carrying and kicking brightly colored balls.  You get the picture.  It's been a while since we headed out the back door to explore our very own backyard.

This peaceful morning we filled our hands with pine cones and fronds of pine needles. We filled our pockets with treasures... acorns, feathers, an abandoned snail shell, some tiny twigs and a few small pebbles.   We did not fill our pockets with spiders.  We left those outside.

      Yes, the oaks we have around here are called Coast Live Oaks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quercus_agrifolia The leaves are not traditional "oak-shaped" but the trunks are tall and majestic -- we like them very much! (Also, the acorns will turn brown -- then they look less peculiar...)

      Yes, I'm sure they were... We try never to harm spiders around here. Even when we find them in the house, we capture them and carefully deposit them outside.

    wow! I love the acorns. They are so different from what we have here. Lovely. I am excited that our new home has 2 oak trees. Now I just go outside and get my own acorn tops in a moment.

    Hello -- Congratulations on your new home with 2 oak trees! Our oaks are Coastal Live Oaks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quercus_agrifolia They grow tall and majestic -- we love them! (and the squirrels go mad for those acorns... they are so funny the way they will hang upside down from their tiny toes to get at some of those treetop treasures!)
